Meanwhile a regiment of 12000 cavaliers led by Schlippenbach was encamped in Riga and after unsuccessful attempt of sabotage they were totally defeated by Russian general Reneau. On the 13-th of August after a relentless fight Russian troops stormed into the city from both flanks. In the raging battle the Swedes blew up a bomb which caused deaths of many soldiers of both armies. Swedish army fought desperately, the losses of Russian army were quite serious. |
